Figured I'd upload a few pics for those patiently following...
Here is what my delivery of 300 lbs of Pukani looked like when UPS delivered it from BRS this week. That's one of my 9yo twins in the pic for size comparison.

Here's a picture from a few minutes ago of my stand and hood (and my other twin).
The stand is 3' tall, the tank will be another 4' on top of that which will come to just below the bottom white pipe. The hood is 18" on top of that an will go to abve the top PVC pipe. Total height over 8 1/2 feet with another 3 1/2 to the ceiling. My next pics should have the twins inside the tank.

Totally unrelated to the tank, but that room looks awesome. The green and stone look awesome with the flooring.

    *end tangent*

How much rock are you going to put in there total?

Agreed, I really like the looks of that room. Will be even more awesome with a monster tank!

That's a great question and its on my list with a million and 1 other questions that I still need to answer about this build. Maybe I'm taking Matt's "go slow" advice too literally. Right now I've got about 150 pounds of Tonga from my old tank and 300 pounds of Pukani that I just got from BRS. The Pukani is really amazing... I have a big piece of Fiji that weighs 15lb dry. The same size piece of Pukani only weighs 8lb so this leads to to believe that since I'm using such porous rock that I'll be able to go with a little less than 1lb/gal (thinking that the 300lb of Pukani will give me more surface area and take up as much room as 450lb of Fiji would). Basically, I'm going to try building my aquascape on the floor of the garage and put in enough to get 2 large islands with a valley in between.

Other questions needing to be answered:
    -choose return pump
    -in tank circulation pumps
    -calcium reactor choice
-3x 400W MH; decide brand/model of ballast, reflector, and bulb
    -additional light choice
    -controller choice
I'm probably overlooking some things as well. Any and all input is appreciated.

Could you take some pics of the pukani? What kind of skimmer are you doing with?

I had the opportunity to see the Vortech MP40's with wireless controllers in action and I am very impressed. Very small, but with 2 in a 180 long they can cause a 3/4 inch wave across the top. Awesome. 5-6 of those in your tank would do well (rotating). Each does 1,000-3,200 gallons per hour, could rotate for wave action, and have very good flow with minimal equipment in tank. Motor and cord is external so no dangly cords and very little heat exchange.

Just a guess, but is the room behind the tank going to be the filter room?
Also, it looks like you really planned ahead, with the the tubes hanging out of the wall, ready for installation.

    +1 on the cool room
