That is terrible. I recently just added a powerhead from koralia( i dont know the specifics but I know it kind of looks like a jet engine blower). I can't beleive it. I'm still some what new well definetly not an expert, but I have no idea why it would do that.

Sorry for your loss. Any high temp swings? The only thing I can think of is maybe the pump was giving out electrical discharge in the water.
    Karma for your loss:(

Do you have a grounding probe on your tank? It is possible there is an electrical leak somewhere in the pump. If you ground yourself and put your hand in the tank do you feel any electrical current?

did you use or clean anything with a antimicrobial in it like a sponge or soap?

I used a new sponge to qiute a loud overflow. it kill all fish and some coral. I feel for ya. get carbon in there, and water change asap. good luck.

About 5 or 6 months ago there was a recall on some of the 2/3 model koralia pumps cause they were leaking voltage. Im guessing your store didnt return theirs to get replacements.

+2 You can also use a multi-meter to test your water.

NEVER put a submergable motor in a tank with out a ground probe, that means any kind of PH.
