If I get a piece of acrylic or glass cut to fit the top, will it take away from my led light?

Yes, but not too much if you keep it cleaned up.

From what i read, you will get more heat build up with it covered without ventilation.

Here ya go. I have one side done and just have to mirror the other side when I get the chance..I have to say it took longer than I thought to make the bow part but im kinda a perfectionist ;D . I used the mesh from BRS and DIY window kit from HD.. In the first pic the back is sticking up when I took the pic but it is now nice and flush,Also you will see a notch in the back off to the side for the cord of my power head..thanks..

This looks perfect! I'm gonna try it I think, but I'm not great at DIY projects. How did you get the frame to bend?

How clear is that stuff in person? Is it like thin fishing line? It looks like it is easily seen from the light shining on it anyways though, unless it's just the camera.

Ahh this was the fun part lol. Made a card board cut out of the curve then transferred that to an old piece of ply wood. Placed some screws at one end and Long the line. Heated it with a heat gun used a hot glove and little by little it bent to shape. But remember to put a small piece of wood or wooden cowl in the grove so you don't crush it.

Yeah it's not far off from that I guess. The camera does make it worse looking. I'm sure it blocks some light but from what I can tell very little the mesh is fairly clear.
