I want to get a few ideas on how I would do this, would want it on my arm or back but have never gotten a tattoo. If you have a taottoo of one I would like to see what it looks like since I cant find one tattoo with a psychedelic mandarin

here are some pics I looked at. 4 and 6 are the ones I like the most and I want them to look real. any thoughs in general or on location?

all pics were taken off of goggle

I would stay away from 4 as the colors may blend over time. #6 is definitely doable.

Keep in mind the smaller you go, the harder it is to get in good detail. To do it justice, I would plan on at least a 6" x 6" area (9" x 9" would be better) for doing it. Anything smaller than that and I'm afraid it would just look like thin colored lines instead of nice bars.

I would say upper chest, back, or thigh. If you have the size, you might be able to get it on your upper arm as well. If you were willing to go single fish, you could shrink it accordingly and still get the nice detail.

Make sure to post a pic if you get it!

number 1 thing is to find a great tattoo artist at colors for this piece, second is to listen to heihei's advice, you'll wanna think more bigger than smaller for this piece, too many small lines a details. That being said, I think a ying yang thing of opposite colored mandarins on your back would be sweet with these;)

It is a very nice piece, but IMO it's border line too small. It looks great right after it's done, but all those small blue circles in the dorsal fin will "bleed" over time. Fifteen years from now, they won't be tight little circles and may spread together.

I wouldn't go any smaller than this for a single fish.

Very nice. Was toying with koi/oriental dragon ideas, but this has me rethinking too. :)

thats my theme, I've drawn ALOT of tattoos for people over the years, and i chose the themes for me to be oriental fish, dragons, water etc because the lines and colors just mesh great, although I added a tribal dragon to my back for contrast, I wish I stayed with the ying yang flowing theme, gonna try to get the tribal tat smoothed out and flowing into the rest of my back... somehow, still drawing.
