So I got my TDS meter in finally and checked my RO water. It reads 6.3 ppm. Is this too high? I currently do not have a DI stage so for the moment will everything be ok? Since it has been for the last year Im sure it will be but I know a reading of 0 is best.

You wont get the 0 reading until you add the DI. But a 6 should be fine, that's still pretty good. You just don't know the 6ppm actually is.

    I agree.

My RO takes my tap to about 9 TDS and my DI finishes the job to 0.

Well is there a way to add a DI stage to my existing unit (coralife 24 gpd) or should I just wait til the membrane needs replaced and upgrade then to a better model?

I would add the DI as soon as you can. If you can't afford it right now, then wait until you need to order replacement membranes.

a lot of RO units can have a DI added. I'll let someone else answer for your specific model (what is it?).

EDIT: my RO output line simply plugs into my separate DI chamber's input (it's physically a separate unit).

Whether 6 is good or not depends on your starting or tap water TDs reading. A good RO membrane should be 96+% efficient at removing TDS. If your tap water TDS is 100 then 6 is not that great, if its 200 you are about average and if its 300 you are doing right at 98% which is what a new membrane strives to produce.
My tap water TDS is 830, my RO only TDS is 5.3 with a COM-100 handheld and my RO/DI is 0. That is very good but I have a very expensive system to get there.

What is your tap water TDS? Take the tap water TDS number, subtract the treated water TDS, divide that number by the original tap TDS then multiply that final number by 100 to get the removal efficiency or rejection rate. Example: 100-6=94, 94 divided by 100=.94 and .94x100= 94% rejection.

What TDS meter are you using? I only know of one meter that registers in tenths and that is the HM Digital COM-100 handheld, all other hobbyist grade instruments I am aware of read in whole numbers so you reading could be 63 not 6.3 if you have another meter. Just making sure.

An add on DI is a good addition if your membrane is operating efficiently, if its not working well though it will eat DI resin in a hurry.
