I run at 78 now, but when I had a sand bed, I ran hotter (80)

I run at 78. Is there a reason you would run a hotter tank with a sand bed?

Yup, higher temp = faster matabulation (sp?). It's been said that 82 is the perfect temp to run a dsb efficiently. I couldn't run at 82, so I kept it at 80.

    78F.

It seems at hotter temps bad stuff grows faster. I've been using treated tap water for some time. If I go over 78F I have problems.

I'm adding an RODI in a few weeks here so then my water changes won't be the same things as fertilizing the algae.
