If you don't have anything that is really fragile you should be ok. If you want to lower the temp, you can try a fan blowing air across the top of your water in the tank or the sump if you have one. If you do use a fan, make sure you have plenty of top-off water on hand because your evaporation will increase.

do you have a sump? because if you really dont like the temp that high you could float frozen bottles of water in it.. on my 55 gal i dont have a sump and went to fish store to get sum pricy corals(for my price range) left tank was 80 and came home was 86.. i just floated frozen bottles in til it lowered back down. everything turned out to be fine

80-82 is fine.. Just wandering why the jump in temp. Did the room temp change? Do you have more than one thermometer?

Sometimes powerheads, skimmers, returns, etc can get dirty or fail and heat up pretty bad. I have a MJ1200 that raises my water from 79-86. I just use it for water changes now. If i were you, I would try to figure out what changed over the last couple of days....if nothing, then try to determine what device is overheating.

Maybe its just hot out? bad thermometer?

well, its hasnt been that bad as I live in NY. I just purchased a wetdry proclear filter w/skimmer 150 which is installed for about 2 weeks with and new return pump 700gph and i have 2 new powerheads. the thermometer is also new, i took it out of the tank and the room temp was about 77. I figure its also because there are 4 pumps running (the 2 power heads, the return pump and the pump for the skimmer) all in all the ls seem all to be doing fine. So if I freeze a bottle of poland spring (taking of the paper and glue) should that be okay? but then I dont want it to go from one extreme to the next.

That bottle will melt entirely in about 5 minutes and maybe bring your tank water down a degree. As long as your working with more than 10 gallons of water, it should bring it down slowly. Just keep watching the temp gauge and decrease it a degree or so an hour.
