    Hello to All,

Was wandering one of the main retailer LFS in my area and was looking at tanks etc.

Question: if a tank has a bright orange "tempered glass" sticker placed on the bottom of the tank, does that mean that ONLY the bottom is tempered?

I only ask in the context of drilling one for a sump etc.

    thanks.

I would try to contact the manufacturer. your LFS should be able to give you that info. I wouldnt trust their answer, I'd go straight to the source. I know hats not an answer for ya but its what I would do to be safe.

Normally, they only place the tempered glass sticker on the glass that is tempered. All 4 sides of aquariums should not be tempered. The bottom is tempered unless your tank is predrilled. In this case they use about 3/4" glass for the bottom.

Check with the manufacturer for sure. Marineland 55 gallon tanks can't be drilled since they use tempered glass throughout. Usually only the bottoms are tempered but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

BTW, where are you in WNY? I'm in Williamsville.

    Hello neighbor,

I am over in Rochester - which makes you "more western" than I am. :)

Just curious - I believe theres a pretty nice looking LFS over your way called A Reef Creation or somesuch.
Ive contemplated a jaunt up the Thruway to check it out.

Are there any other good shops in your neck of the woods?

nice to meet a "local" reefer!

Hello to the other end of Route 90!

Nice area you live in although I do not usually go too far east of Syracuse. Are there any really good LFS out at your end of the Thruway?

With spring coming, I often just get in the car on a weekend, roll the windows down and just drive someplace for the day. A day jaunt to a regional LFS would fit that bill nicely if any of you along route 90 can recommend some.

We have a couple of nice shops here as well.

We have two that actually sell SW fish and supplies, however only one of them is a nice place. its called eddie's aquarium. decent supply of both corals and Fish. They do a full range of test for your water at no cost. Prices are a little high, but seems like all LFS are high in prices.

Usually tanks that are drilled are tempered, but they drill first, THEN temper the glass.

AGA tanks are only tempered on the bottom if at all.
