I test for salinity, and have strips to test the other general stuff. I know there's lots more I should be testing. What test kits do you guys recommend?... I have corals & fish.

    Thanks in advance!

    phosphates too dont forget!!

I use an API reef master kit which tests alk, calcium, phos, and nitrate... then have seperate test kits for ammonia, nitrite, mag, and pH

you won't really find it, I haven't seen any master kits of the top brands(I use), I have seen a API or seachem ones tho.

The strips aren't very accurate, all master reef kits will be drops or powders.

I would look at Salifert for Calcium, Magnesium, Alkalinity, phosphate and nitrate

I agree. After looking all around for opinions on test kits, I think its fair to say that the top two are Salifert and API... API is cheaper but Salifert tends to give more accurate results.

If I were you, I would go API for the basics like phos, nitrate, pH, ammonia, nitrite

and Salifert for calcium, alk, mag... they even make some cool ones like dissolved oxygen and a strontium kit ($37) haha.

Like i said, that is just from I have read and im not making any factual comments, but it seems pretty clear

anyone, please correct me if i am wrong

    a good suggestion IMHO
I do believe that the Salifert Phosphate kit is commonly indicated as a better kit for this nutrient

but having said that I always run GFO irrespective of the test kit results
so a cheaper kit under those circumstances, would probably be just as effective for my needs

i haven't really found one brand that i like for all of these tests. i use sailfert for magnesium and API for calcium, KH, phosphates and nitrates. i use a PH monitor for the PH.

I need to learn more about testing too. I've done a little testing and my problem is I'm just not confident in compairing the test color of the test chemical to the color chart and feeling I'm accurate in my numbers. Is this something I just need to get used to? People post very specific numbers and I feel like I'm getting general test results.
