How do you test your water. I have the marine test kit with the test tubes that test for ammonia nitrates nitrites and ph.

Should I be doing a different test too? Is that the best test kit to do?

Those kits will be fine while you are cycling. You don't need any other's imo.
But when you begin to add corals (particularly stony) and want to see coralline growth you will need to begin testing Phosphates, calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium and keeping those levels at the appropriate numbers. Just remember to never dose anything you can't test for.

What kind of tank do you have? Reef?

The tube kits are better than the strips, for sure. You might need kits for phosphate, calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, depending on your tank, though.
