I just added the bacteria and the ammonium chloride that is provided. I was gone for 5 days so I wasn't able to add the ammonia on the scheduled days so I'm hoping that the cycle will be finished at some point this week. I should have just thrown a clown in there and been done with it though.

Just found out that my sand will be arriving from Marco on Friday. Skimmer and an Apex Controller are next up on the list.

wow....that tank looks good...although I think you are being brave with that xenia (or whatever it is).... looks like the kind of stuff that takes off...

..and Kingumar tank is "off the chain" as they say

I see both of yuz got sand; how deep might I ask?
...I'm 50/50 on my DSB .... I can go either way and might pull it (or not)

shhhh...don't say that too loud, someone might hear you :cheesy:

....on the one hand I can see the whole deal about not making a fish suffer, but on the other hand my guess is that dead shrimp would gladly trade places with a live clown fish...

...sometimes I wonder if these same "Activist" hate furs but wear leather shoes.....::)

    pardon me......back to the thread

3 inches of sand...and i am very aware of how fast the xenia grows, thats why i frag it weekly, yes weekly. Then i hold them till i have about 10 or so, then i take them to the lfs and 6 bucks a piece for them in credit.

so how much has the 90 build cost so far?

I get talking money can be a lil tacky but it is a constraint and a reality... so I was just curious what kinda cheeze we have all dropped on these tanks so far...
....still "she" does let me slowly buy whatever I want/need for the tank within reason....

anyway; just for conversation sake here is what I've unloaded so far (in no particular order):

    • Tank/stand/canopy: about $750
    • mag 9: $90
    • 2x mj1200: $50
    • 2x Koralia 1050 $70
    • 2x Koralia 750 $52
    • Reef Octopus NWS 150 $200
    • ATI Sunpower $400
    • 4x T5 Bulbs $100
    • Apex w/probe, PM1, B/O box $300
    • BRS Deluxe Reactor $40
    • BRS Dual Reactor $60
    • media for the above (pellets, phosphate remover, Carbon) = $50
    • Float switch, Toms Aqualifter, misc $50
    • 20G Sump w/custom baffles $40
    • LR Rock $50
    • semi Dry Rock Free
    • sand $10
    • Salt $50
    • pvc fitting, asst junk $50
    • Asst Fish & inverts $150
Anyway I get about $2300 so far....
I figure $1000 and I'll be about done....

Doctorgori, what makes you say that the Apex Jr. is limited? Have you done a review or writeup of one? If so please send your opinion and justification our way.

Hey Clarkey, Naw; no "Consumer Reports" or nutin, but if 1st hand xperience is Ok then....

yeah there are some limitations hence the the "Jr" prefix ...
...and don't get me wrong: believe me, it is a nice piece of equipment and just by comparing features and reviews to the reefkeeper products: superior IMHO

But compared to its upgraded sister products it has some missing features that are not cost effective had you simply purchased the upgrades in the 1st place...

    • it doesn't come with so called legacy ports which rules out controlling 3rd party X-10 and therefore it can't controll or monitor other aquariums or remote equipment that isn't physically linked to the "Aquabus" via wires. (Despite & Contrary to Neptunes recommendation, using X-10's for remote lighting et is nice & worth it, reliable or not) Note this feature cannot be added or corrected
    • it does not come with a mini din port unlike the Lite or Sr...this means you need to buy or make a "Break Out Box" to add float switches and water alarms et...another $40
    • it does not come with a bult in pH port: another $120
    • No variable port: another $100
    • Limited to 5 devices on the Aquabus
    • Only 4 "out the box" outlets: the lite & Sr. come with a PB8 (8 outlets)
Basically you will spend more just to make it as capable as the "lite" version....my advice: at least drop the $315 for the Lite with pH probe
