The Mohel

For those who've not heard of the Jewish counterpart of a urologist who performs them otherwise. . . A Mohel is the Jewish person who performs circumcisions. Pronounced moy-ul (rhymes with oil).


Anyway.. . .


A mohel is on his deathbed and calls to his wife. She comes promptly. She wears the look of dread commensurate with the knowledge she is soon to lose the love of her life, her husband of more than 50 years.

"I made something for you" he says.
"What is it?" she replies.
"It's my life's work. I've been collecting the treasures of my toils for decades now. All for you."
Somewhat taken aback, she fights to hide her feelings of unease. She swallows hard. She can't help but be curious as to what this might be. She asks again. "What is this thing you've made me?"
"It's a small token. A rememberance," he motions toward the dresser. "The top drawer," he coughs.
She opens the drawer to find a small leather box with a clasp.
"Open it." He says.
She does. It contains what appears to be a change purse. It's wrinkled and browned with age, but luxuriously soft and expertly stitched. She raises her eyebrows scowles at him in disbelief, crestfallen after such high hopes and uncertainty.
"A lousy change purse!! This is your life's work?" she asks, raising her voice.
He struggles to take his last breath and motions for her to come closer. She puts her ear to his lips.
"Rub it," he says, "It turns into a suitcase."
