i know it is preferred to have a seperate system all together for a quarantine tank...but does anyone use their sump/refugium as a makeshift quarantine tank? at least the new fish cant be in direct contact with the other fish. i just dont really have extra money for another tank/heater etc...

yeah its good to acclimate a new fish in a place where he can get use to the water and then easily scooped upin a week and put in the dt i do it in my mangrove tank. but a qt or hospital tank is for treating sick fish with meds u dont want in ur tank

Yeah, You can't consider that "quarantine" in the sump.
Good enough if you just need to protect a fish from other mean fish.
When you quarantine you are observing for pest and diseases.. Like my tank ended up with sundial snails and vermatid snails.. .. whether or not I would have noticed this in a quarantine setup I don't know. If I had corals in there long enough I probably would have.

Hospital tank will have medicine in it.
