Third powerhead??

Okay. Hating the look of something I understand. However, you are not using the pumps to their potential this way, and will never see the benefits of the Vortechs that everyone speaks of. Buying a third is a waste of money IMO if you plan on putting it on the back wall as well.

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Thats why when I set up my next much larger reef I plan on doing it either 1 of 2 ways to help solve that issue.
First and I think my favorite option would be getting a long tank and setting it up peninsula style where everything would be on the small backwall. This would obviously have issues and I would need to research how people set up these style reefs.
The second and most probable option would be to get a nice deep tank and have it set into a wall where part of the sides are behind the stand/wall and have the Vortechs mounted on the side walls towards the back where they would be hidden.

 

Worry less about how visually appealing the tank is to YOU and whats best for the reef! lol Just build it completely into the wall, so its just like a viewing window.

Thanks for helping me decide against an unneeded third mp10w I put he money towards a vortech battery backup instead. Next on the list is upgrades lighting and my own rodi unit instead of hauling rodi water back and forth from the lfs

Then you can power your hole tank for as long as you want! as long as you keep a few gas cans full....

I have one and it has saved my tank more then once...

 

Thought about that but the problem is you need to be home when the power goes out to hook it up and start it. Otherwise it's useless

Look into the WP40's, coming out with a wp10 in May.

Of course, if money is no object, stick with the MP40's.
