So I was examining my tank and saw this on one of the live rocks I put in the other day and I'm positive it wasn't there before. My cycle just started and I was surprised to see this poke out the afternoon. Anyone know how this happened so quick? Is it normal??

And sorry I'm posting so much, just really want as much questions answered as possible!

that is an aptasia anemone.....it is a pest and can reproduce very quickly...you will want to kill it...

i use bioling water in a turkey baster and they melt instantly...others use a kalk paste and syringe...you can also buy aptasia x at your lfs

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
It's an aiptasia and they make it through a cycle very easily.

i would also examine your other rocks closely and deal with any others that may pop up... these can kill corals, but mainly they can take over a tank if not dealt with..

you cant really get them out...if you go for them then they will suck back in to their little hole and are pretty impossible to find...

i really like to use boiling water in a turkey baster and just shoot the rock where its at, 9 times out of 10 they will melt...and 99% of the time the hot water will not affect anything, especially since you have no corals around it and are cycling.... and this option is free, whereas the aptasia x requires $$$... i have never had an aptasia live past the boiling water...

Is anything growing right now bad? Because there are some little real thin reddish guys growing out of holes also that have like little white hairs almost.
    Those bad, too?

Okay so I'm looking around and I'm finding tons of small little things that are clearly alive. Is every single one bad or not?
