This Guy

So yesterday I went out to the LFS in Sacramento I decided to go to a new one I learned about from here. I went to AquaWorks and spelunked around seeing the new things and if there was anything I wanted there, I had noticed a guy browsing some corals but nothing came of it. After spending too much time my wifey said it was time to go, so we went to the normal sac shop O Street. After a bit of time inspecting new additions and a few corals The guy from the other location appeared.

After a few moments he began to ask me about my tank and my lighting and I was hesitant but decided sharing couldn't hurt. I told him I didn't have corals yet but I was looking to get one. And IF the hawk didn't see a mouse in an open parking lot. He attempted to try and Get me to buy some of his frags from his tank at home and telling me since I'm a newbie that he could set me up right get me what i wanted for a cheaper price. I was being polite and listening but knowing in my head there was no freaking way i was gonna do anything with this guy. Luckily my love a bit upset by this guys actions asked abruptly if I was going to get anything because she was ready to go. I quickly took this opportunity to grab an employee who was talking on the phone to get the coral I picked and left with out saying another word to this guy.

I understand wanting to sell frags but really in the middle of a business that makes their living based on selling these things legit? I can be nice and all but that seems to make me mad and I wanted to tell the owners but he wasn't in and the two working there at the time were both off in LALA land...

I bought what I'm guessing yes guessing a torch coral

 

I've never had this happen but I would probably feel the same way you do. Anytime anyone tries to push anything on me I shut down real quick.

On the other hand I was in the LFS one time talking to an employee about how I was looking for a kenya tree and another customer who ended up selling me a really nice kenya happened to overhear the conversation. But I guess that is a completely different situation.

 

I agree. i don't have a problem with people selling frags on the side but you don't go into another person's business and start selling to his customers. That is completely unethical. I'm sure he is not offering to pay a portion of that shop owner's overhead costs. i have actually been in a local LFS selling frags to the owner when another customer approached me offering to buy some of my frags for more than the owner was offering. i told the guys that he would have to buy them from the LFS if he wanted them because i was uncomfortable with taking business away from the owner in his own store.

 

Years ago I was in a LFS and I asked the owners if they would buy frags from me. They said sure, will give you a dollar, (that's right $1) for your corals. A green staghorn, 1 red mushroom, 5 green mushrooms, 1 purple with blue spots mushroom, pulsing xenia and some zoa's. Obviously, I stared at the owners for a few seconds, then walked away. On my way out a man I've never met before came up to me and asked what the corals were. I told him so he came by my place to buy 2 of the corals.
