Just wondering if I should be worried about this frogspawn. I bought it prob 6 months or more ago and placed it in a spot where it has not moved from. Opened up huge and split from 2 heads to 3. The tissue originally connected between all the heads but now does not. Not sure if this is just a normal seperate of the heads or if it is tissue recession. The past couple months since I changed from my hydors to vortechs the coral has not opened up nearly as much as it used too, thinking it might have been a flow issue. Also I do see small clearish pods crawling on the tissue around the head every now and then, not red or black, not sure if thats something to be worried about.

Picture was taken with coral closed up as much as it goes to show the tissue best I can. I moved the coral for now to get a better picture.

Water Params? Also, with the vortechs, is it causing more direct flow on the frogspawn? How long ago did you switch?

There is now direct flow but def more than when I had the Koralias. Parameters are all fine the past few months my Alk has been 8-10 CA around 400 Mag around 1400. Nitrate 0, phos 0-.03, SB 1.025-1.027, and pH 8.0-8.2

I changed one a month starting in February until all 3 pumps were replaced with vortechs

Might want to bring up your calcium a little, but my guess is that it may just be too much flow for it now, so it is retracting and trying to protect itself from getting scraped against the skeleton. Thats what happened with my hammer when I went to vortechs.

Are there SPS in the tank that need higher flow or could you turn the vortechs down? Also, remind me- what size tank do you have?

its a 46gallon, i have a few sps and have the vortechs turned to only 5 of 12 LEDs I have other hammers and frogspawns that are all acting just fine (except for the wall hammer that hasnt done well since purchase).

The fact that the others are doing fine, would imply that there isn't a tank wide problem...Maybe try a slightly different location for it? It may be that all of the currents collide in that one area?

Do you notice it blowing around more in that area? Do you have a FTS?

BTW- 3 vortechs in a 46 bow is pretty much flow even if they are only at a little less than 1/2 speed.

Euphyllia don't appreciate high flow; it will tear/rip the polyps.

Well I wasn't going to get all sciency, but yea what he said ^;D

If you check out ecotech's flow calculator, you will see that 3 (even at the low end of the optimal range) are too many for a 46. http://ecotechmarine.com/calculator/

COuld be flow issues, but my wall frogspawn and 3 branching hammers locoated all over are doing fine. SOme are low flow some are high flow, I run lagoon mode so it slowly rams up and down all day.

FOr the time being I moved it to one of the lowest flow areas I could so we will see how it opens up.

I found that all my euphylia were going gangbuster, until my wall hammer got a small tear from too high flow. It got a little jelly infection and I lost two hammers and a frogspwan that were all really close. Now I have two mp10s on the back wall and turned down my mp40s alot so now they aren't whipped around every 5 minutes by that stray wave. Then need alot less flow then you hear about sometimes.
