I have a 125 gallon tank with a 55 gallon sump. Currently im running a mag 12 for my return pump at about 5' so that equals about 800 GPH. Is that enough turnover? I recently added an older iwaki WMD-30RLXT with the mag and it seems it may be a bit much. I can only get specs for this pump at gallons per minute and not sure what this pump is pushing at 6' head. Specs showed 19 GPM. Anyone know how much flow is good for a 125? Its a fish only tank and so far it has a bamboo shark and I want good turnover but I don't want to over do it. The tank will have other fish as well, tangs, angels ect. Any help is much appreciated. I noticed water moving much faster in the sump. If it ends up being to much I guess I could install a ball vave on mag 12.

i don't think there's a thing as too much flow. there's some guys here running crazy flow in SPS dominant tanks....for a fish only, more flow won't hurt anything.

The Mag 12 is enough by itself. At 800 gph you're getting just over 6x tank volume turned over per hour. That's enough.

I believe the usual reccomended flow is about 10 times your sump volume, not your DT volume. This is to allow your skimmer, reactors ect. to have enough contact time to work efficiently. If flow through the sump is too fast the water will not be processed very well.

    +1

If you need additional flow in the DT, add 2 or 3 powerheads or a wavemaker.

yea listen to the above, i misunderstood the first post lol....too much flow in display i meant is not an issue, but through the sump you wanna slow it down to filter out properly.

Thanks for the quick replies. I unplugged the iwaki and I'll stick with the mag 12. This is why I love 3reef.
