Is it possible to add to much Marco ( calpura ) to a system at one time ?? Just restarted the fuge after 4 months of it being down....LFS gave me a LARGE bag of Macro and I was wondering if it was possible to add to much at one time?? or should I only use a smaller amount and allow it to propagate on its own ?? I just don't want any to die off due to lack of nutrients and cause a problem in my tank from the expelled product.

125 gallon tank... approx 175 gallon total capacity. Fuge is a 55 gal plexi modified to hold 8 inches water / 2 " sand bed, dual 96 watt 6500k PC lighting.....SLOW Flow force fed/ gravity return to sump.

I have grape calpura in my fuge and it HAS to be trimmed every once in a while or it will go sexual.

i thought usually with caulpera you want to start small let it grow then cut it way back

I'm not sure about starting with a big chunk, i would just say watch it and trim it when you need to, defiantly watch it close just in case.
someone else that has used caulpera more could help you.

Start with as much as you want really. It's growth (or decline) will be dictated by the amount of nitrates and phosphates you have to feed them. Personally, my fuge only supports chaeto. Don't know why....but caulpera dies on me. So does codium.

I say just dump the whole bag in. The algae will either die down or grow up depending on how much food it will have. Our Chaeto hasn't grown or declined in quite a while, and only one of our 5 mangroves has leaves. So I think our skimmer might be starving the plants, or our tank is just awesome that way. Either way I'm fine with what we've got going :D

Thanks for info, the skimmer has been off for awhile to prepare for the Macro introduction. not many fish and only 3 small corals in system...lots of snails / crabs...nitrates are below .10 so there is food for macro. I will dump it all in and see what happens ! also Lights are on 24/7 ...I understand the 12/12 w/ lights.....these werre in the 24/7 tanks at LFS...so will keep them on it unless something changes
