my bta is huge. It is taking over. I've had it for a little less than two years now and don't feed it (well actually my Clowns take care of it). Any ideas?

    Have same problem.

Have had for years, refuses to split.

At least it stays in one place and does not wander.

If you need to contain it to one area, try surrounding it with zoa's

    See: Anemone vs. Zoanthids

Yet another is try changing light spectrum...mine went from huge to "resonable" by moving up to 14k MH from 10K MH.

Remove it and take a sharp knife and cut it into quaters right through the center of the oral opening .. Then sell 3 of them as in about a week they will be up and back to 4 nice sized anemones ..

:worried: --- Would like to split mine...once it gets healthy again...

Will have to gather more courage then I have now to take a knife to it.

Is there anyway to encourage it to split on own?

    good ideas

I'm not sure I have enough courage to cut it up either. But I could get there if it keeps stinging my other stuff. I will try moving some Zo's around it. The best thing of all about posting is that you guys give me permission to do cool stuff like buying a bigger tank and upgrading my lighting. I even told my wife....

I've heard a large water change could trigger a split. But the problem is everything I've heard to try and trigger a split are also stressful to everything else in the tank.

that is why I'll never have an Anemone in a reef tank again. they are just a PITA

All you need to do is just lay it on a towel and a sharp knife and cut it right through the mouth then cut those tow halfs into again again through the mouth I just cut one 2 weeks and go and sole one the next week It not blood and it feels no pain . Take the big boy out and I'll swap you for a nice smaller one I'll cut it :)

As Jason said I'd never have on in a reef again and I tell all who listen to not do it.. But I have no date just simple experience as to what they will become and what they will do. Anemones all of them belong in a species specific tank ONLY!
