    I found a good deal on a nice Giesemann 2x250mh/ 2x54t5 fixture but was wondering if its overkill for my standard 75g 48x18x20 ??? Thats 608w compared to my Nova Extreme Pro 6x54w pushing 324w just thought id ask since i can get it for a real good price thanks guys

    You will be running 8 watts per gallon - I have seen tanks with much more. I have always preferred more light myself. My concern would not be the wattage but the MH’s pushing 250 watt’s at only 18 inches. At that depth I’d lean towards 150’s.

    Now, that being said…a good deal is just that – a good deal. Assuming this is a reef fully stocked you will need to get your inhabitants use to the new lighting. Reduce the photo period and stagger the MH’s with the t5’s. Keep an eye on your higher residing corals and move down if necessary.
