check out reef cleaners web site (sponsor section on here)
they have various species and a description of what each species is primarily best qualified to look after in your tank

I personally like Astra snails as they dont get as big as Turbos and despite what the name implies - my Astra get around quicker than turbos and hence do more maintenance for me

    Hope that helps

I have Florida and Dwarf Ceriths, they do their job. I really dont have preferences on snails though. I would say keep a variety of snails and you will have better luck. I have the ceriths, mexican turbos, margaruitas, large nerites, and a few Nassarius Vibex.

tonga nassarius are my favorites. they are much bigger than the regular nassarious snails. They have elephant trunks and stir sandbeds. It looks cool when they are under the sand because their elephant trunk always pokes out of the sand. They are fast movers too.

Nassarius are sand sifters that don't eat algae though. This is why you should mix it up and get a good variety of snails to be sure each job is done. My personal fav is the nerite snails.

I also agree on variety! get a small amout of a bunch of different kind of snails who all do different things! thats the best way to go IMO :)
