Hello, I was wondering if there were any Triggerfish that are somewhat reef safe? I really like Triggerfish but I also want to keep a reef. Also if I had a pair of clowns would the triggerfish bother them?

No shrimp, or crab would be safe.

I have a pair of bluejaw trigger in my reef. I have a cleaner shrim and a bunch of hermits and snails in and so far (9 months) they have left them alone. They also leave my coral alone. However it should be the absolute last fish that you place in your tank....mine eat anything I put in there now..but leave the others alone. No trigger will be 100% reef safe...though the blue jaw is one of the safer ones. I have recently found out with my other fish that NO fish is guarenteed to be 100% reef safe though

+1 on above - fish considered reef safe can turn out not to be!
I have a niger trigger (juvie - less than 2"), he was the last thing I added, I have 2 cleaner shrimp, 4 peppermint shrimp, 1 porcelain crab, hermits - he hasn't bothered anything yet, we'll see how he acts when he grows up ;)

as previously said, blue jaw triggers are the most reef safe trigger you can get.

Agreed. My bluejaw was about three inches and didnt harm anything, however my picasso trigger is about five inches and has eaten my boxer shrimp, and knocks my snails off the glass and rocks. Also note that some triggers will spit sand around the tank like sand-sifting gobies. My piccasso is a pain in the backside, as i have to swish sand off my corals on a regular basis.

There is no guarantee that a fish will be reef safe, all we have is guidelines that stack up chances. Up to you if you wanna take the risk!

    Good luck in your choice,

Blue Jaws, Crosshatch's, and Sargassum are the top three safest triggers in a reef. Pink Tails and Niger's also have done well, but seem to be more hit or miss than the first three on my list.
    What sized tank?

I personaly had a Sargassum trigger in a mixed invert Reef and had no problems with and loss of live stock nor corals... Only thing i will say with the more safer triggers is the price of the fish goes up... Unless you go towards the Blue Jaw...

    Good luck...!!
