Trouble introducing newer fishes

Hi all, i am new here, i have a 120gallon tank that has been running for about 8 months.

i have 1 bicolor angel, 1 bluegreen chromis, 1 fire goby, 1 diamond watchman goby, 1 sixline wrasse, 1 pair of false clowns, (all are at least 4 months old, ) 1 electric blue hermit, some turbo snails as well as some zoas, green star polyps, 1 toadstool leather, some hammers touch and bubble corals. my nirate is 0, po4 is probably at 0.1. however my corals are opening up properly and the fishes are feeding normally.

however i can't seem to add anymore new fishes. 2months back i tried to add 1 pair of flame anthias both did not eat and 1 died 5 days later, the 2nd one lasted 2 weeks. i tried to add 1 lawnmower blenny 3 weeks back but it died last week, 1 coris wrasse a few days back and he died the next day.

i use the drip acclimation method on all my new fishes for at least 1 hour.

anyone has this problem too? i cant seem to figure where or what has gone wrong.

 

Try waiting a little longer before attempting another fish. Use an acclimation box.

It could just be bad luck and selection. Anthias can be hard to accliamate, Lawnmower Blennies, you need to start with a fat specimen. Wrasses are a more difficult fish to acclimate as well.
Ask your distributor what value SG they are running their tanks at.
You may need to QT and adjust the SG slowly to match your display.

According to my experience, 1 hour drip might be too long, especially if they were shipped in a bag. When you open the bag that was sealed for a long time, introduction of fresh oxygen causes an ammonia spike.
Here's what worked for me:
- For fish that I bought at LFS and that have been in a bag for very short time (less than 1 hour), I drip acclimate over next 15..20 minutes max if SG is different.
- For fish that were shipped and been in bag for a day or more, I float the bag without opening it for 5..10 minutes to match the temp, then I mix half of the bag water with my tank water and add some Seachem Prime right away. Then do a pretty fast drip for maybe 10 minutes max.

Def ask your vendor what SG they been kept at. If it's close to yours, I just add them directly to my QT tank after floating them for 5 minutes max to match the temp.

Anthias are pretty picky eaters. They also tend to be overly aggressive towards each other if kept in small numbers. I have now a harem of 7 lyretails, 1 male and 6 females, that has been doing great for almost 2 years. But it took me 3 tries to get anthias to strive in my tank. I believe they key is to add them in large numbers (to spread the aggression) and to feed small frozen foods such as cyclopeeze (which seems impossible to get nowadays) or baby brine. Nowadays I buy all kinds of meaty frozen foods, mix it all up and chop it up very fine. They love to swim around and chase 100s of small particles. They also love to eat often, I feed my tank twice a day.

It's possible you just had back luck with other fish.

 

okay. fingers crossed i really hope it is just bad luck. thank you guys for the advice, i think i will just wait for abit and try a hardy fish
