Tunze DOC 9410 Skimmer

So I bought this skimmer to go on my 60 gallon cube and got it in case I wanted to upgrade. Well I finally got everything set up and for four straight weeks now all it has done is flowed over. Not produced any skimmate just clear water and it just bubble over. Fills up the collection cup in about 30 secs. I have contacted tunze and they were no help. Said I would need to ship the pump back to germany. I am getting frustrated as I paid over $300 for the skimmer.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have changed the water level in the acceptable ranges 6"-9" roughly and changed the amount of air coming in with the valve.

 

The only other thing I can think of would be an excessive amount of manufacturing oils and what not stuck in it. You can try running the skimmer in a bucket of vineager for a few hours and see if that helps. Or try the retailer where you actually bought the skimmer from and see of they will take it back or exchange it. Sorry to head that they have bad customer service.

Well I ran the skimmer in vinager water for a couple days and switched it to my larger tank and it is working again. Thanks all for the help.

you bring up something i have wondered about skimmers. was the skimmer to much for the size of the tank? i was going to upgrade my skimmer ( another tunze of course ) because i think i would like to try sps corals .... as things are in my tank my skimmer is doing an awesome job, it isnt bubbling non stop,i notice bubbles off and on at different times of day going into the cup, which i guess means its more than keeping up with whats going on in my water. i just heard sps need soooo much skimming of the water that i wondered if i needed a larger skimmer. is there such a thing as to large of a skimmer?
