I was wondering if it was safe to occasionally use a turkey baster to gently blow over the rock in my 75 gall. tank, and if so, how often? Thanks!:-/

It's perfectly fine. Do it whenever it needs it or you want to, there's really no harm in it.

You bet its a good idea! I would at every water change thoroughly blast the rocks to remove any detritus that built up in the crevices or pores of rocks. As you blast the rock use the siphon to remove that detritus... Its a great way to keep the tank clean but also keep the nutrient levels down.

    Happy reefing!

Simply us a powerhead to blast them faster and easier and does a better job.

I use the turkey baster regularly. If you don't nastiness will build up in there. Powerheads a good idea but they won't reach in my tank. If you haven't blasted the rocks in a long time .. I would just do a little bit at a time. Too much could be too much for the system. Sometimes if I haven't done it in a while the nitrates will go up 5 or 10 after a big blasting job. Also you may notice coraline prefers a smooth surface like glass and plastic. I take a tooth brush sometimes and brush some of the viewable parts of the rocks ...to make a smoother surface for coraline to attach itself.
