Im switching out my canister filter for a Sump/fuge

my question is, is there a breakin period for it? Seems like since the bioballs will be brand new i wouldnt have the bacteria and stuff on them to give me the good filtration im looking for right off the bat. So is there something i need to do or should i just set it up and go? I dont think it will be a problem but i just want to make sure before i do it.

My last Sump i set up from the start and it ran for a month before i added anything, so it wasnt an issue, but this tank has been running for about 9 months now. Nitrates starting to climb, figure the canister is the cluprit.

How often do you clean out the canister? Try cleaning out the canister once or twice a week and see if that helps.

I try to do it every 2 weeks. but its a pain in the butt so sometimes it gets pushed off to a month or so. Im getting the new sump setup anyways because i want a Fuge on there. and they are alot less hassle to maintain imo.

With 80lb of rock you should be ok with bio-filtration in the tank. Plus you will be adding more water volume so you should see no problems.

You could also run both for a while so that the canister keeps doing it's job as the fuge kicks in.
