yes i use UPS on my tank, you have to calcuate how many watts you pump is vs how many amp hour the ups is. i also use a 5kva generator for long term.

I'm in the process of deciding which one to buy to run a Koralia through a short power outage. I sent a question to APC about runtime for a 10W powerhead yesterday. Here is the response I got.

Thank you for contacting APC's email support on 10/28/2009 12:26 PM. I would be happy to assist you.

Paul, the Runtime graph from the website for the BR1300LCD shows that this UPS will power a 50W load for 2 hrs 42 minutes. Executing tests at lower loads may lead to expectations that the runtime will double for half the load. The Battery Runtime graph is not linear, therefore you can not half the load and expect the Runtime to be doubled, also the UPS will not operate as efficiently when running at such a low load. We do not have an estimated runtime detail for 10 watts. However, it should be more than 10 hours for 10 watts. The best thing what you can do is to run the UPS on battery at 10 watts and see how long the unit runs the 10 watts load.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by responding to this incident. It would be my pleasure to ensure that your issue is quickly resolved!

i don't think i need a generator. power doesn't go that often and hardly ever goes for a long period.

10 hrs would be more than enough. i have to check the power rating on my PH but it shouldn't be much, it's not a big one. what is the best price you've seen this unit for?
