This evening when acclimating my new fish my long spine urchin got me. I got stabbed under my index finger nail where the spine broke off. Currently sitting in a hospital bed.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Hmmm, ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch.

While making beach exits after diving I have broken off a couple in hand and feet, my body just eventually absorbed the ones I could not get out.

    Boy that sounds absolutely excruciating.

I predict your future holds a NP saying " Ok I am going to use this sharp object, stick into your skin so I can remove the other painful sharp object stuck in your skin" Oh and here is a scrip for oral antibiotics. Return if you develop a fever, increased pain or discomfort or drainage from the removal sight.o_O

I bet they don't get a lot of Urchin stings here in Ohio.

Man those critters have evolved great defenses. Sounds painful. Underneath the fingernail. Ouch.

Seriously, I could almost feel it myself just reading about it.

Lesson: Always wear gloves or use a net, tongs, or other device when handling live inverts.

Oh man, that sucks. I had my longspine get me a few times but not bad. The last time got me good in the finger, had a dr appt the same day for something else and I told him. He just laughed and said if it got infected to come back, lol. Those really hurt though.
