I read up on ICH when I first discovered it in my tank. What I learned from combining the information from several sources was that at a normal tank temp the free floating bug hatches at night and lives for about 3 days in the water column looking for a host. If the tank temp is raised to 85* it shortens the life span to 1-2 days. It is the cyst that falls from the fish that stays on the bed of the tank for a short period before hatching. In my limited experience of 3 years, I believe the UV filter does accomplish what it is advertised.

In the end, it is the decision of the owner of the tank to make a decision on what to use on their tank based on the information at hand and their pocketbook.
