    In my bait shop....

Here's a peek into my exciting, smooth sailing, ever changing life. A splitter valve in the 02 system failed and one 100 gallon holding tank of Creek Chubs died. Doesn't take long for over 14 dozen fish to use up the air. They will sell as frozen bait but considering I charge $8.50/dz alive compared to $1.75/dz frozen I think I'd rather have them still swimming.
    Some things about this post...
I'm not looking for sympathy, just sharing a piece of me with my friends.
Yes the water is brown and nasty. It actually needs to be that way to keep them alive for any length of time. Ever seen the water in the Missouri or Mississippi? Anyone who lives east of the Rockies knows what I'm talking about.
The bagged dozens are just the 'floaters', there was actually over 14 dozen dead now with more expected by the end. Once they get deprived long enough to start sucking at the surface it's hard to get them to bounce back.

lol, me too. I thought it was referring to your tank. Sorry for your money loss, buddy. Do you breed them? If you do, will they reproduce fast enough to get you out of the water for this loss?

That's a bummer. I'm glad it wasn't a total loss though....at least you can sell them for something.

Interesting. Do you net them? How do you catch them. Here in Tennessee they call those "Minows" beats me... I have no idea why they call them that way.
If I go fishing, I just cast a small 5 ft. net I have to get them, but in a creek, it may require different techniques.

yeah, bad break for you - but i too was worried about your reef tank and those awesome little seahorses you have.

What kind of fish do you use those as bait for? I have to believe I could catch a monster pike or bass with something like that on my line :)

    They remind me of smelt.

Yep, here in Tennessee I just use a casting net to get bait if I want to fish with "minnows". But they normally aren't minnows, they're types of shad and shiners most of the time.

Tennessee Shad can catch some awesome smallmouth as I found out yesterday in a new honey hole we discovered :)

Sorry about the failure though :( But like you and others said, it's at least not a total loss. Still a bummer though.
