So at the show today 1 of the vendors (Southside Corals) had some great stuff on display. A customer was talking about a few zoas they had on display being slow growing and 1 of the people working for Southside said not slow for them and that they are using Vitamin C and seeing great growth on many corals and splitting like crazy.

Wondering if anyone here is using Vitamin C and what there experience has been.

I do not and it sounds like another snake oil. As with all coral, proper water chemistry, lighting and stability win out.

well snake oil maybe but they were not selling it. He was just saying what he has been dosing and his stuff was some of the best there. When someone mentions something they use but do not push or even sell the product I like to investigate. I like to get the facts and get others experiences.

We already know that a lot of people are having good success with AcroPower so this may fall under the class of supplements.

Also although water quality is over all best bet there are supplements that are beneficial.

Thanks for the input and hopefully others have some hands on experience with it.

Sorry if I came off as combative, that wasn't my intention. I'm personally hesitant to use additives. I like to stick with the organics created by fish/feedings and maintain calcium/carbonate.

    Here's a bump for you.

Slightly off topic, I did add vitamin-C to my Guinea Pigs water bottle 15 years ago, as a youngster, to help fight scurvy.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Vitamin C dosing was pretty popular for awhile, especially for those keeping zoanthids. Hobbyist swear it improves coloration, growth, and some make claims that you see less melting or pox when supplementing C. Seems there was two very distinct groups, those that swore by it and those said it made no difference.

It would be something I would try, seems pretty benign (if you do a little research).

So basically you're just carbon dosing.

Not at all I totally agree with you Kevin there are tons of snake oils which are pushed.

I am also pessimistic when it comes to adding anything.

Good stuff.. thanks for the info

I think I remember Renee' of Lionfish Lair saying that they dose vitamin C. I could be wrong on that but I think it was more geared toward fish health.

I really like acro power as it seems to work great on my chalices and montis too. I'm gonna check out the vitamin c today when I go. Think of all the stuff we strip out of the tank with all the serious filtration we have. Makes sense.

Yes, OFK, we use it as a supplement for fish health.
