Alright. I am about to place an order to upgrade my 6 koralia's. I would liek to get some opinions. I had my heart set on the mp40w but keep hearing about having to replace the wet side every so often and people having issues with them. My next option would be two tunze 6085's hooked up to this simple wavemaker which I already have ...

What are everyones opinions? Tank is a 125g mixed reef with mainly sps. here is a pic with rock formation to give an idea...

    thanks.

can I have your koralias? lol!

I would go with 2 tunze. the mp40w is nice, but also I have heard it weakens the seals on tanks.

I use 3 MP40's and I can't imagine anything that would be an improvement over these. They are quiet and no vibration.

+1 A fellow reefer uses these and are AMAZING! They're continually upgrading their technologies and most of those bad reviews are from older models. The tunzes are a great powerhead though, but the ones in the LFS display don't seem to be as nice as the vortechs. Great tank btw.

I'm in the same boat but in a different reason, when I upgrade to the 240, I'm gunna get the Tunze wavebox, and I feel that if you are going to shell out the 400 for a Vortech, why not spend that extra 100 and get the wavebox, this way you have flow ALL over the tank...Any rebuttles would be great, I guess I would need a reason why the Vortech over the Wavebox, besides the size.
PS I know that you are not looking into the wavebox I just wanted to add a second query onto this thread

I have a single vortech on one side of my 210gal, the other side I have 2 koralia 3's pushing back. The vortech is AWESOME, so awesome that soon I will be replacing the 2 koralia 3's with another vortech. Replacing the wet side was a Gen 1 thing, with Gen 2 they fixed all those problems. The fact that it is weakening tanks tells you how good the flow is. Just because it CAN produce a massive wave that will weaken your tank and possibly break it, doesn't mean you will set it up that way, they are very versatile pumps with endless options! The only problem with mine is the "hum" when it speeds up the pump. If you run an absolutely silent tank, you will notice this and it may bother you. If you have a loud skimmer, return pump, splashing of the overflow then you won't hear it. Also Only happens when you turn it past about 75%, lower than 75% you can't hear it at all. I can't speak for tunze, as I have never had them.

I wouldn't be using it to make a wave. Most likely it would be set in reef crest mode. A weakening tank would deff. not be good so if others would chime in on that I would appreciate it. Although I would suspect that is mainly when producing a wave.

Yup it's the wave action that supposed to weaken the tank.Like james37128 said i luv mine too.I prefer them over a tunze,it's just the adjustability they give you, that convinced me.
