So I want to build up a tank.. I want a bigger one with a good filtration system, but I don't know much about it. I have always had a biocube. I have researched a little bit, I want a sump with live rock and all that fun stuff where should I start?

decide what size you need DT and sump and then if you want another small tank for a fuge..

then i would spend alot of time deciding what plumbing you want..my next tank im gonna do a bean system, its super quiet and creates some good flow with a good suction..i have only read positive reviews about them...

then depending on your budget decide what equipment you want, whether you want to alot of diy..and then decide what you want to house in your tank..

this is good start at least..

    dt is display tank...

find out what size tank you want, figure out if you want to do a sump, which is a tank underneath that lets you keep all your skimmer, heater, and some people even make little fuge areas in them..

if i was doing it and you want a 75gall..

i would have the 75 as the display tank and get a 40 breader for the sump(if you cant fit it then a 30), and get a 20 gallon(or a 10 if the 20 doesnt fit) for a fuge and just plumb all that together..you should be able to fit both of those tank under a stand of a 75 gallon..

try googling "how to build a saltwater tank" this will get you some ideas..or maybe make your question more detailed..

there is alot of thinking to be done on how you want to build the tank..and i will never set up a tank without it being plumbed with sumps and fuges..this is the best way to do it..but after you get everything you need to decide on what type of plumbing you want..there are different styles and ways to plumb a tank to maximize the results of the tank..

a sump keeps your main tank cleaner as far as equipment being jammed in it...also with sump, the return pump is a huge help with flow which doesnt require you to have a bunch of powerheads in it..a sump also allows you increase water volume which makes your tank more stable..

a fuge is a natural filtration tank, it usually has a deep sand bed and is filled with macro algae to natural rid the water of phosphates and nitrates..fuges also if run on opposite light cycle with stabilize the ph of the tank at night when it naturally drops..
