Watchman golby feeding

I just picked up a watchman golby and I can't seem to get him to eat. Is there something special they like. I watched him take in a shrimp pellet only to spit it back out.

 

I think you're talking about a watchman goby? They do look like little bulldogs though so Watchdog fits too

Hunger is a great motivator. Give the fish time to adjust to its new surroundings. It should start eating just about anything you put into the tank soon. Be careful though, they get big enough after a while to eat cleaner shrimp!!

 

I was just wanting something to stir the sand so it doesn't get compacted together. Watchman is right, need to learn my fish hugh!:-/

Many fish need time to adjust and get acclimated to their new surroundings!!! Give it some time and offer it some brine shrimp etc. to help stimulate it. Flakes and pellet food, IMO, are not the best food to start enticing a fish to eat I don't think!
It should do fine, however, i think they like sifting through your substrate for food-therefore hopefully you have enough in your substrate.
Looking at your signature being that your tank has only been up since end of October, you may have a problem with lack of pods etc. living in your substrate for it to feed on...I may be wrong though!

 

Try frozen mysis shrimp.

 

Unfortunately, watchmen gobies are not sand stirrers beyond moving whatever sand is necessary in order to build a burrow. They're great little fish though.

 

What is good fish to make sure the sand gets stirred up

 

Sleeper gobies are your best bet. Other than that, try Nassirius and Conch Snails and Sand Sifting Stars. Of course you can sift the sand yourself.

 

Will the sleeper and the watchman get along in the same tank well. I read something about the watchman that said to only keep one in the tank.

 

You shouldn't have a porblem, though they are prone to jumping out of the tank!!!
