RO/DI is nothing more than drinking water. It's purified, full of minerals. I highly doubt it has trace calcium. RO/DI will not replenish lost trace elements, atleast I dont think so. As stated by morejongg, you get all the good stuff from the salt mix.

I settle for generic filtering at the local watering place while I buy sparkletts RO/DI from Food 4 Less @ .98 a gallon for my reef freshwater top-off. My reef means more to me than me. ;D

Fears, DO WATER CHANGES!!!!!!! I set up my 90gal and did not do water changes for 3 months check my level and for got to do nitrates and everything was fine. Check a month later and my Nitrates were through the roof! that was one month ago. Lost my cleaner shrimp and my coral was not looking good at all. Since that time i have been doing a 10gal water change every 3 days to get the level down. A skimmer is not going to help you, I have a ASM G-3 250gal rating and still does not help.

I don't care what anyone says. WATER CHANGES ARE A MUST!!!!!!!!!

ok I did a water change the other night, the PH was low 7.8 so I added my buffering solution to the new water. Is this what you guys do? I mean do you check the PH of the new water?

Fears, sorry for not getting back to you on the PH question. When doing a water change the RO water you put in will be at a lower PH than your tank most likely at 7.8 or lower. What i do and many others here is to add in buffer to the water that you are going to use to change out with also add calcium. Bring the water up to same temp and then do your water change. You should then be good to go and i hope things work out great for you.
