Water coolers

    I just wanted to know what the purpose in having a water cooler was since im new to saltwater tanks thanks.

    do you mean chiller. if you do its to keep the temperature of the water below 82 degrees, the lighting for reef tanks put out alot of heat

    Thanks yes thats what i mean so is it nessasary to have one in case you need it or ? thanks

    it depends upon the normal temperature of your house, the type of lighting you have, how much lighting you have, and the size of the tank. i would just set the tank and see if the tank will stay around 80 degrees with out one, and if it gets to hot then get one.

    Lighting and pumps will generate heat in the tank. My tank's pump and lighting system generates about 5-8º of heat transfered into the tank, most comes from my pumps and PHs. It was enough for me to pick up a chiller to get my temp down to 78º.
