I'm sure this topic has been posted before, so I apologize in advance...but I just got my ATO unit in the mail yesterday and I've been having the hardest time trying to find a storage container to use for my RO water! I went to Home Depot and saw a decent 23 gal Rubbermaid, but I don't know if its safe.

    Here is the link:

Rubbermaid 23 gal. Slim Jim Waste Container, Gray - FG 3540 GRA at The Home Depot

This one will fit perfectly in the space that I have (about 14in width) since it's tall and slim. I've also tried the plastic store or whatever that online container store is  and they had a 14x14x28 20 gal pet container but mentioned it's not good to store water.

If you have suggestions, please send a picture and where you purchased it.

    Thanks for the help

Rubbermaid industrial bins. Not the tiny ones from KMart, the big 150 gallon ones.
EDIT: Try a 40 breeder for size? Or a 35 hex?

I got a really cool black 10g cylindrical reservoir from tank depot for arouind $40 shipped. I was super picky about finding something that looked aesthetically pleasing since my tank is in my family room. I love how it matches my stand and surrounding furniture and it takes up very little room. Also had the perfect hole in the lid to feed the wires and tube out of.

You can check out what tank depot have at this link: Plastic Water Tanks

Looking through their site it looks like they unfortunately don't carry the one I got anylonger, they start at 20g and up in that style now.

Here is a picture of it next to my tank:

I use the same 23 gallon Rubbermaid can but in the blue Recycling version. The plastic is all the same and mine has been in operation over two years now still with 0 TDS in the stored water and its never once been cleaned out.
The only problem is if the sides are not supported it will bow out of shape. You can make a simple collar out of wood or square tubing that slips up under the rim to hold its shape or wedge it into a pace that is only wide enough for it to fit.

The drain valve I placed on the bottom didn't work well, it dripped so I replaced it with a 3/4" bulkhead and ball valve so I can fill buckets. The can is placed on a shelf about 24" high so buckets or 5G water jugs fit under it.

Now this is very nice...I definitely want something that's nice to the eye since mines is also in my family room. 20 gal would be great as I want something that I won't have to refill for at least 4-5 days.

You can get the 20g version of mine through the link below, you would want it in "FDA Black" color. BUT it is showing the 20g is 16" in diameter which is bigger than your 14" space. Hmmm my 10g I believe would have been perfect I think it's 13" or 14" diameter, not sure why they don't carry it anylonger.

If you do get the 20g though it does have an output that comes without a cap at the bottom of the tank. You can buy a simple cheap screw on cap at Home Depot or Lowes and securely cap/seal it with some plumbers tape, just be 100% sure it's water tight.

Mine's been fine for months and I usually have about 8g or so in there: Ace / DenHartog 20 Gallon Vertical NSF-61 Tank (A-VT0020-16)

If you do get it, feel free to PM me if you had any questions. I took the screws out of the lid and the plastic cap out of the lid to use to feed the tube/wire out of.

You wouldn't happen to have the link of the one you saw similar to yours would you? This is the only one I see but is different than yours.

    Chem-Tainer 20 Gallon Tapered Cylindrical Tank (TC2214QA)

Also do you know the name of yours...just so I can narrow my search? Thanks for the help.

See my post above yours, the link is in there. When you go into that link you can pull up the PDF drawing of the tank and it's mine exactly just larger diameter for the extra 10g of water.
