It really makes no difference, the membrane housing will still have sufficent mositure inside it for a month or two. You should use a RO or RO/DI every 10-14 days so its not an issue.

Wow really? I've heard this so many times that I thought it had to be true. Is it the same with the DI and the pre-filters? Although the other posters didn't think about the "tubes" way, they had valves for the same purpose. I think its about time that you write a how-to guide to RO/DI. I mean those valves are a little pricey when you are getting a bunch of them. I could have put that money to better use.

For long term storage plugging or valving the lines is a good idea but better yet if its going to be a month or more is removing the DI cartridge and the RO membrane, placing them in a zip loc or seal a meal type bag with a little RO/DI water and storing them in the refrigerator.

Since it is recommended you use a RO/DI every 10-14 days though its very likely the system would dry out in that time. Personally my systems are plumbed permanent or semi permanent and always under pressure so there is no problem.

The sediment and carbon filters can dry out with no ill effects, the membrane once in use and DI resin cannot though. If you buy DI resin in bulk, make sure you reseal the bag and keep the resin damp and stick it in the refrigerator for storage, it should last 6 months if fresh and stored properly. I never buy more than I can use in 6 months time.

ok i picked up the 4X55Gal drums. they did indeed have juice in them at one time and were still baring the labels. I got them for $15 each. I have the Aqua FX Barracuda with an add on DI with a buster pump. I will be running an auto top off float switch with a pressure shutoff switch to the pump. I have also added a flush kit. So you are saying i should put a ball valve on the waste line so it is shut down when not in use? I guess that makes sense so it will keep the DI membrane wet. I am going to get bulkheads and link two Barrels together so i will be able to fill 110 Gal with one supply line and one shutoff. does anyone have any suggestions for a delivery pump to pump water out of the supply barrels into the mixing barrels. I am also looking to use the same pump to deliver the salt water to the tank during water changes. I would even like to use the pump to empty the tank out to the waste line during water changes. the distance could be as far as 25 feet. Thanks for the feed back

No do not put a valve on the waste line.

Any aquarium pump will work for a delivery pump as long as the distance is not 25 feet vertically.
