If you can, just spring for a controller with wavemaker built in, as you mentioned. I use a Reef Angel on two of my tanks, and a Hydor Wavemaker on another. I prefer how my Reef Angels control them better, since you can control each one individually vs. the Hydor, which either alternates or both on.

Also, if you need an ATO, it is a no brainer to go with a controller. It would cost similar just for the wavemaker and ATO.

Those hydors claim to be controllable but I hear they are best left running 24-7. The constant start up either messes them up or the chattering sounds they make while starting will drive you crazy. I have 3 of those 750s and they are noisy at start up IMO

I have 10 Koralia Evo's between 3 tanks, all on wavemakers. 4 are in one tank in my bedroom. Every once and a while there will be a noisier start, but mostly they are very quiet on startup. They are definitely made to be on a wavemaker though. And if there is an issue, Hydor has a very good customer service. 2 out of my 10 have broken front covers, and they are sending me out 4 (for free of course).

not at all, the evo's are great, I run mine on the hydor wavemaker, 30 minute intervals, and no noise, there's a 15 cent solution to the other hydors in they are clicking.

But IMO, I'd get a controller if you can afford it

No, i was wondering what a Spanish Shawl Nudibranch was since it was under my name. Seeing that it looked so cool I figured I would display it. I wish I had one!
