i got these zoas almost 2 months ago and while they seem to be doing ok, they havent attached to any rock they've been on yet. another one i bought at the same time seems to have stuck fine.
i knocked a power head last night and they got blown down. when i picked them up i noticed this thing on the underside...

probably not the best photos but i had someone else take them while i held it, can take some more if it helps.

it seems to be like a hairy/feathery covered mussel type thing???
will it actually just be a mussel?

    keep it?
    :-/
    get rid of it?

    thanks

the fuzzy looking parts seems soft but it seems to have a hard shell underneath that with a split down it like a mouth.
it hasnt moved from under the zoas since i got it, and if i hadnt had to pick it up probably still wouldnt know it was even there.
    heres a couple more pics

I'm sure you're right about it being a bivalve. Hard to guess which one without killing it and cleaning it, though. You can find both mussels and clams with the hairy periostracum. The dead bivalves on the same slab are pearl oysters.

    Cheers,

    Don

oh awesome, thanks for that. i'll see if google can help me find anything similar to narrow it down.

will it have any effect on my tank if it is just a hairy mussel?
being a 7 gal nano i might be worried if its likely to die or release anything without me being ready for it.
also should i try and move/remove it so my zoas can stick themselves to a rock instead?

Nah, whichever it is, it won't hurt anything.

excellent, especially since i think there may be a few more different ones hiding in that little clump of zoos.

    thanks again for the info!
