Basically this rock has a weird color i have never seen. It almost looks black but i think it is a very dark purple. And he has hair like things on it. Does this look and sound normal? I just went through a diatom bloom so i expected a little different color but not this. It is easy to brush off so should i take it out and just brush it of with a toothbrush?

Are you using Biopellets? i started to get something like that so i took half of the Biopellets out of my Reactor and it is starting to go away.i must has more then my skimmer could handle.if your not running Biopellets. it might be Cyanobacteria a.k.a. Red Slime.if it is that i would try to get what you can out of your tank even if you can take some of your live rock out and clean it off in a bucket of your water change water so you get it out of your tank then put the rock back after you clean it good.then i would do three days with not light on.

Maybe I'm not seeing the image correctly but it looks like detritrus on a very dark coralline rock.....when you said you could brush it off, is it the white stuff on the rock? Are the hair like things, like tubes? looks like it could be tube worms....

Looks like cyano bacteria to me. Siphon it off with your water changes and increase your skimming to remove the nutrients that are causing the growth.

No, tube worms are good....they spread rapidly in tanks and are filter feeders....It must be my old eyes but I don't see the dark stuff. I would trust 2 in 10 that it's cyano and advice on what to do...
