We're leaving on vacation for a week tomorrow. Have a guy who knows tanks coming by every day to take care of them.

This morning I noticed I couldn't see the smaller cardinal anywhere (not unusual, he's a good hider). Got home, fed everyone, still no cardinal. Found him wedged between a rock and the overflow, obviously trying to get away from the larger cardinal who chases him. Torn fins, scales missing on part of his back, eyes were starting to get cloudy, but still alive.

So I put him in the quarantine box in the refugium and it seemed he was going to make it, eyes clearing up, moving when he saw me...but boy, he's sure not looking like it now.

Had to call the fish sitter and let him know to check on him tomorrow and feed him if he's starting to come around. Not sure he'll even make it to tomorrow morning so I may have to start my 5 AM trip departure with a fish flush :(.

Really makes me sad, as he was my fav fish. He had no fear of me or my hand, and always ate directly out of the turkey baster -- he's such a brave little guy -- this sucks.

    Sorry SushiGirl,

I hope he looks better in the am and you can get a more positive start to your vacation. Such a bummer to loose a favorite fish.

It sure seems to me like these things always happen when your going on vacation, to work.......Tank anxiety syndrome I guess.

I make it a policy not to mess with my tank the week prior to departure, it always snowballs into bigger issues. At least you have someone dependable to care for it.

I was thinking about my dead male clown fish today, I can sure relate to the sentimental feelings we develop towards our fish.

Yeah, we haven't messed with the tank. Last weekend was water change, and next weekend is the next scheduled one. The guy taking care of the tank is a coworker who used to have a tank & worked at an LFS installing/maintaining them, so it's definitely in good hands.

The little guy didn't make it, just flushed him. The bigger cardinal is all looking lost now.
