So I heard something try to jump out of the tank a few minutes ago so I checked out my tank and my male clown was swimming on his side at the top of the tank looked weird.. I turned on the lights and gave them some food and he sannk down to the bottom still didn't really do much. looked around my tank and saw my starfish decaying.. which really really made me sad. I pulled it out of the tank the central disk is pretty messed up but his end legs look fine and are trying to move but they can't drag the rest of the body.. should I do anything with the starfish I placed him in my bio cube. my clown is acting perfectly normal right now.

Have only tested ammonia which was 0 and SG which was 1.025.

Should I try to save the legs??

Anyone??? I feel so bad this little guys legs are trying so hard to move should I try to cut them off to keep the decay from spreading?? try feeding... I know there is not much to do once a starfish starts going downhill... but Im willing to at least try.. The hermits come up to him but then walk away... they don't seem to interested

I would just put it out of it's misery. Sorry to say that but it looks far gone and from your description sounds that way too. :(

    Umm..that's kinda tough to say.

If it were me I'd mix 50/50 Rubbing alcohol and water and drop it in.

If you don't want see it die the only option would be to flush or freeze it.

They all sound mean but I've had to euth fish before and the alcohol was pretty quick.

Well I decided if I was just going to kill it..to try to save one of the legs.. I just cut it off where it looked healthy.. its moving around.. I know it probably won't live or grow.. but its worth a shot since I was going to euthanize it anyway... :(

    +1 to Reefmonkey's suggestions. :(

Though I think splitting the legs was a good idea on your part. That will give it another change if it has any, to regrow.

+1 If you're just going to throw the thing in the garbage and call it a fight, then I wouldn't even bother wasting the alcohol.

I think you're pioneering and at least giving the star a chance if you try and save it. The way I see it, there's 5 healthy arms, and 5 chances of one of them surviving. If not....then at least you tried. I personally never liked the towel.
