    Water level

Do not know all the reasons this may happen but one is water level to high in skimmer.

Water level is a good one. I've noticed mine skims wet when I tend to overfeed. Also a good cleaning will require a dial adjustment.

It is primarily a combination of the above. Air intake adjustment valve, water level height on skimmer, and varying level (evaporation).

I messed with mine and now it is skimming a lot of water and not much protein. I am going to run it lower water depth until i can get my sump pump back online.

Here's the thing. My skimmer is in my Aquafuge which unless the pump is turned off the water level stays the same at all times. Also I've no way to control the air intake. No control valve :( I can impede the intake but can't increase it.

What brand of skimmer do you have? Can you put something under the skimmer to raise it which will lower the water level?
