Thank you for your opinion I have tried the lionfish but they didn't get along. I know all about eels iv read countless articles and talked to so many people the impulse buys are my weakness for sure. I think I'm going to make a species tank for just eels I think that's my best bet.

I do have a quick questiin. I read they like pvc so I was thinking of making a deep sandbed and putting pvc underneath the sand with a elbow on each side coming up out of the sand into caves. Like connecting caves through a tunnel system? If that makes sense? Any thoughts on this? Or anything I should know about a deep sandbed? The pvc would have to be large enough for him to turn around in so he doesn't get stuck. So I'm thinking a 3 maybe 4 inch sandbed

While a good idea, I know pvc tunnels can easily become detritus traps.

people do this all the time, although i think they usually do it through the rock work, facing down so its not a detritus trap! i think ya have a good idea, just make sure to blow it out often!

sorry for your losses, please feel free to share with those thinking the snowflake will play nice if fed! predators will be predators at one point or another!

I havent heard of a ton of success keeping multiple eels of differing species in the same tank, especially a small one like a 55g. I kept a snowflake for a few years and loved him, so did my wife. What are you feeding him other than chromis?

Silversides and krill. What did you feed yours? And I'm not sure if I'm going to get another eel if I do it will be another snowflake.

Thanks guys for the advice maybe Il try putting pvc through the rockwork instead. I don't know Il look more into it. And will most likely make a thread with pics when its done :)

Thats what I thought. I'm 100% sure my eel died from a silverside related disease. I would try to avoid them. Krill is great, you can also feed rew shellfish and other shrimp but I would be careful on silversides.

My first snowflake got "lost" in a 135. 3 years later, we tore the tank down and found him fat and happy in the return.

As for the territorial boyfriend, I definitely wouldn't put it in a tank with other similar species.
