    A type of hydroid I believe.

    I am trying to remember the exact name for them.

    Yes if they are hydroids they can spread and sting some corals. Easy way to get rid of them is to take some underwater epoxy and apply directly on top. Superglue get might work as well. Or you can just remove the rock and treat.
