What kind of sealant???

I am ready to make my refugium... I have had the plexi-glass cut... This isnt the greatest refugium I have ever seen but if it doesnt work out then I will make another one some other time! Its just a simple 10 gallon tank with a section for bio-balls then it flows into an area with sand, rock, etc, and there is a cut out for my prizm skimmer.

My question is what kind of sealent should I use to put the plexi-glass in? I bought this stuff called Permatex.. heres a picture... Please let me know what kind of stuff people here have used. I dont want to hurt my fish!!!

 

The only thing on the back with the cautions that might worry me is this

"Acetic acid, which irritates eyes and respiratory tract, is released during curing"

But since thats only during curing and curing takes 24 hours I think its fine but Im just checking with everyone. Thanks for the help ;D

 

That is fine but you may run out.... Let it cure 48 hours for a better cure.

 

Don't know about that stuff but most people get GE Silicone II from Home Depot or DAP from there as well. Big freaking tubes for a few bucks.

Just don't get 'mildew resistant' blends that have some toxic crap in them I've heard.

 

Aill it says is interior/exterior, wehater resistant, waterproof, and seals... I read something about that GE || but since I just finished sealing it I guess I'm 'stuck' with this stuff lol

I am going to let it cure for more than 24 hhours like natuilus said just for an ectra precaution though. Thanks for the help guys

 

The Permatex Silicone is the same as GE Silicone. But if you have a lot to do, You will spend a lot more buying the small tubes like that. You can go to Home Depot and get a 10.1 Fl oz tube that fits into a calking gun for $5.00 or $6.00 You can use GE Silicone 1 Or 2 just make sure that it says 100% Silicone Rubber Sealant on the tube

 

i'm using this PVC cement by Master Plumber to connect all my piping to each other. It has a very strong smell and I'm not sure if it's toxic to my reef tank. I don't know of any other PVC cements that aren't toxic.

 

PVC Cement is fine to use on your PVC connections just let it dry completely before running your water threw it.

 

it says to wait 2 hrs to cure.

 

I would wait 24 hours before putting it in the tank or sump area.
The best PVC cement it the one with the purple primer and clear cement. never had a leak or salt creep with this stuff.
