First, mods if this is in wrong section Im sorry, was`nt sure where to ask it..

OK on to my prob..about 15 min ago I added some top off(ro/di) and added some seachem calcium like I have been doing for the longest time.BUT this time I looked at the tank after and every thing,I mean everything started to close up on me,this has never happend before(only thing was it was a new bottle I just opened).I hope all my corals don`t die..worst part is I have to leave for work in the next 20-30 min...... any Ideas what caused this?.well I guess I`ll find out if they make tonight when I get home..I will try to check replies from my phone..TIA

Was the RO water the same temp as the tank water? Maybe they just didn't want you to leave for work? My corals will do the same occasionally. I wouldn't worry.

Are you only adding Calcium? What about Alkalinity and Magnesium? It's possible you threw off the chemistry balance if you're just dosing Calcium.

Have you checked the TDS of your RO water? Maybe the filters need to be changed or something got into the RO water?

hi Jkat are you adding without testing levels?

I know for example Sea Chems Calk. Alk and Mag have 3 sets of instructions on them
    beginners, intermediate and advanced

the beginners instructions are to add X amount X many times per week ( X just means amount varies depending on tank size)

the problem with this is , if you dont know your levels or the usage, you can eventually reach saturation point and the excess falls out of solution and this could cause an immediate reaction from your corals
it could take weeks or longer to reach this point if your actually adding more than your tanks inhabitants require

I wonder if it's possible anyone used some soap or chemical on your bucket? I find it unlikely that the calcium you've been dosing your tank with for 2 years suddenly messed with your corals. More likely it was something else, like something in your bucket.

When I dose Ca and Alk some of my sps will close up, like my green slimer and Blue tort, but the two millepora don't neither do any of the lps or zoas. It could be that you happened to hit a few corals with the concentrated Ca solution before it could diffuse.

Steve your are correct there are 3 diff instructions.I test weekly and adjust from there.today I only added 1/4 dose dilluted in the ro water.......but right before I left I realized the bottle was the same but,it was not the exact same calcium.it was there mantinance calcium so its actualy less consintrated....

Nope its only me and the wife and she dosent go in the room with the bucket of water...

FWIW I would assume your tank is OK. Sometimes coral close up for funky reasons. :)
