I have a few frags of trupmet coral and a small piece of green star polyp. I'm assuming at some point I need to permanenty attach them to my rock? At what point do you suggest I do that? I also have a small rock with 3 button polyps on it. Is it wise or unwise to attach it to my live rock structure? Will it over run everything else?

I'd attach your trumpet in a moderate light/flow whenever you can. as for the GSP, I'd attach them on an "island" where you can keep them trimmed and controlled, they can quickly get out of hand;)

How quickly are we talking about the GSP getting out of control? Will it harm the trumpets or button polyps or any other corals I may put in? I've really only got one large rock structure in the tank (12 gallon) and one little island with mushrooms on it. Not much other room for islands.

I've had my GSP for a month and it hasn't grown a micrometer. There's really no telling. But one it established, it can grow like wildfire (happened in my old tank).

You could always start the GSP on top of a rock on one of the islands. That way if it spreads down too fast, you can take the rock off or move it before it infects the pile. Or start it on the back or side of the tank, or on the overflow, assuming enough light/flow. It does kill others if it comes into contact.
